Dr John R. Adler, Jr., MD, AB, is the CEO of ZAP Surgical Systems and a world-renowned neurosurgeon who invented the CyberKnife, pioneering the field of image-guided therapeutic radiation. He earned his AB in biochemistry and MD from Harvard University and completed neurosurgical training at Harvard, followed by a fellowship at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute under Lars Leksell, the father of radiosurgery.

Since 1987, Dr Adler has been on the Stanford University faculty, where he is the Dorothy and TK Chan Professor of Neurosurgery and Radiation Oncology. He holds more than twenty patents and has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr Adler founded Accuray Inc. to commercialize CyberKnife and later established Cureus, a leading open-access medical journal. In 2014, he launched ZAP Surgical to expand access to advanced radiosurgery worldwide.

His work has earned numerous accolades, including the AANS Cushing Award and the American Radium Society’s Janeway Medal for Lifetime Achievement.
